Overlapping Project

Well... this was more difficult, and I do not like it.

For this assignment, I instantly had the idea of animating my caricature used throughout out my personal branding. I typically illustrate me with a little bean sprout; a perfect subject for overlapping.

Working in class was useful, and it gave me a basis for where to begin (i.e. with the head rotation not the sprout.) I worked restlessly over the weekend trying to finish the animation, but it turned out not according to plan. I found the head movement to be too mechanical, and the overall animation was too quick for my taste.
Critique was very useful. The key to making the rotation slower is to ease in and out as the head reaches each shoulder. Apparently the head was rotating from the center rather than a neck, which is something I failed to notice until mentioned. I followed the professor's advice and drew a neck off of the canvas. This made rotating the head much easier. This time I also worked on less layers, so it was easier to move everything.

The first time around, the hair was increasingly difficult as the parting and volume remained inconsistent whether I drew frame-by-frame or copy and pasted. For round two, I heavily struggled this time with the bean sprout. I tried following through but it snaps too quick.

At this rate, I'm exhausted and getting increasingly frustrated. I'm going to stick a pin in this for tonight and eventually resurface for a round three.
