Head Turn Assignment

This assignment was a lot more enjoyable compared to the flour sack animation; however, it was the more daunting task at hand.

I was unsure about how to choose my subject because more often than not, the characters I draw more often than not lack a prominent neck or simply do not have a neck at all.

In class, I practiced head turning the old school cartoony figure shown in the demo videos. You know, circular head with the giant circle nose. This obnoxiously large nose made it easier to turn the head because it had a distinguishable side profile. Oh should I also mention that besides a neck, my characters don't have a nose either.... oof.

When trying to think of a character for my animation with a strong profile, I thought that an animal may be the best way to go since they typically have a longer nose or snout. I didn't want to do a dog or cat though simply because I didn't want to do overlapping on the ears (I know, how lazy!)

It was late at night when inspiration struck me... or more so stabbed me. This little ducky is my absolute favorite reaction meme, and it is the epitome of my presence.

The beak and knife helped guide me throughout the head turn although I was worried about the features rotating around the body since it is just a round body. In the end, it turned out better than I expected. I was glad that I was able to control volume as I hardly draw characters fully facing the side.

Unfortunately, I did not have time nor an art tablet over the weekend to make the suggested changes in time for regrading. However, I will revisit this one to stick into my portfolio. I'll add an in between for the feet to make it look more like waddling while weighing it down, and I'll also add twist lines similar to how a blobby bird turns its head.
